A Silent Hill f x Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly crossover is coming at some point in 2026, merging two iconic survival horror franchises. The crossover will involve costumes from the Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly remake being added to Silent Hill f, allowing Hinako to dress as one of the ghost hunters.
Silent Hill f is a prequel to the long-running survival horror series, moving the spooky action in a small Japanese town, long before the evil made its way to the titular American town. The game was released in 2025 and was widely considered a return to form for the franchise.
Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly is a remake of the original FF2, and is set to release on March 12, 2026, meaning the crossover DLC is likely to arrive at some point after this. The Fatal Frame games are terrifying, and see the characters fending off legions of vengeful ghosts with nothing but a magic camera.
A chilling tale of two twisted cities
Both Silent Hill and Fatal Frame (sometimes referred to as Project Zero in some regions) are survival horror franchises that each draw heavily from Japanese cinema.
Ringu (The Ring) and Ju-On (The Grudge) are two of the legendary movies that inspire them, so their crossing over, even for such a small event, feels natural and exciting for long-time fans.
However, to be clear, both franchises are set in their own continuities.
Silent Hill and Fatal Frame both started life on the PS2 and grew in popularity adjecently from each other. While Silent Hill would go on to massive mainstream success, including a few movies (that are best forgotten), Fatal Frame would develop a more cultlike following over the years, but is still considered one of the most legendary survival horror series ever made.
Whether this crossover is a one-off or the start of a new and creepy relationship remains to be seen. However, those who enjoy Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly when it releases will be able to return to Silent Hill f, but with a new and hauntingly familiar outfit.
