Avatar Legends The Fighting Game is currently scheduled for release in summer 2026 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The release window was revealed in an announcement trailer at New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2025.

Though this release window isn’t quite as meaty as a firm date, it’s a step up from simply “2026”. As publishers generally prefer to skip the mid-July to mid-August release lull, we can see it hitting store shelves either early summer or late August, depending on how development progresses between now and then.

Avatar Legends The Fighting Game gameplay and trailer analysis

So far, the folks behind Avatar Legends have released a range of trailers. The most recent of these, the Aang Special Moves trailer, shows off every technique available to the plucky young Air Nomad.

In keeping with fighting game traditions, gameplay sticks to the side perspective. It is hand-drawn in 2D as a nod to iconic animation from the series, backdropped by stages based on locales that will be familiar to fans. From what we know, there will be 12 playable characters at launch with more on the way.

The combat is based on what’s being called the ‘Flow System’ that emphasizes responsive and fluid movement-centric fights. The Aang Special Moves trailer shows this system in action, with an emphasis on player maneuverability.

We were also treated to a ‘Support 101’ trailer, demonstrating how each of the central 12 characters can select support characters that influence their playstyle. Aang is able to choose between Gyatso, Momo, and Appa.

Each of these support characters offers distinctive changes to Aang’s playstyle. Again, there’s a refreshing emphasis on mobility here.

The official Avatar Legends The Fighting Game also released a trailer offering details surrounding the game’s closed alpha. If you’re keen, you can find out more on the Avatar Legends The Fighting Game website.

We initially saw the Avatar Legends The Fighting Game announcement trailer at NYCC 2025 in October 2025. Condensed to under a minute, it showcases pre-alpha footage of one-on-one bouts of combat starring recognizable characters from the Avatar universe, along with glimpses of the much-loved elemental masteries that define the series.

A ‘Chi Tutorial 101’ trailer was also released, detailing how players can use Chi as a resource to move across each arena and trigger hidden techniques.

Following this was a trailer focused on Chakra, offering a tutorial on the mechanic

Avatar Legends The Fighting Game price predictions

As of writing, there have been no official details about an Avatar Legends The Fighting Game price point. That said, since the game isn’t being published by a big-money powerhouse, like EA or Ubisoft, we’d be surprised if publisher Gameplay Group asks for anything near the inflated AAA $70 (£60) standard we’re inevitably marching towards.

Speaking speculatively, around $50 (£45) seems like a reasonable prediction, positioning it in AA territory, though leaning a little on the Avatar IP to crank up the profit margins a tad. As always, it’s worth waiting for the pre-order machine to spring to life closer to release to get a confirmation on what you’ll be playing for a copy.

Avatar Legends The Fighting Game roster predictions

12 playable characters have been confirmed for launch. Alongside actual fighters, the Avatar Legends The Fighting Game roster will also include selectable support characters that, though not actively involved in combat, will influence the chosen fighter character’s fighting style and which special moves they’ll have access to.

Seven playable main characters have been confirmed:

  • Aang
  • Azula
  • Katara
  • Korra
  • Sokka
  • Toph
  • Zuko

The remaining five are still a mystery. That said, we’d love to see Game Group International branch out with the rest of the roster. Seeing tyrannical metalbender Kuvira have a rematch with hot-headed Avatar Korra would be a real treat, as would getting to see quick-witted mechanic Asami take to the arena.

Is Avatar Legends The Fighting Game more than nostalgia?

It’s hard to say with any certainty at this point. However, all signs point to a robust fighting game that, though based on the much-loved series, will be a bona fide entry in the genre rather than a quick cash grab coasting on the IP’s popularity.

The title looks poised to enjoy a stacked roster, solid net code, crossplay, and a unique combat system. With all that in its favor, there’s plenty that suggests Avatar Legends The Fighting Game will be more than nostalgia.
