Update: Unfortunately, the amazing Helldivers 2 fan film For Liberty! has been removed by YouTube. Plot Coalition has clarified on Reddit that they are in “contact with Arrowhead and can assure you that they had nothing to do with the takedown”. It doesn’t appear to be the fault of Sony either, as Plot Coalition says, “YouTube removed it because we made it free to download”.

Plot Coalition is “chatting with YouTube,” but there’s “no word on when or if it will go back up”. The creator also points out that “The film was not monetized as [they] do not own the Helldivers IP”.

While it remains to be seen if YouTube allows the film to return, there is a free download link on Reddit. The removal is extremely disappointing as the film is excellent and had massive momentum, hitting over 450,000 views in just two days.

Original story:

While Hollywood works on making a Helldivers 2 movie for the big screen, there is an amazing fan-film that has hit over 450,000 views in just two days. For Liberty! by Plot Coalition is available to watch in its entirety on YouTube for free, and it’s an amazing fan-made project from a passionate team of volunteers with “No AI-generated voices, video, or music used in the film”.

The film was completed over the course of 15 months and was spearheaded by a “group of volunteers working on nights and weekends”. It is made by Plot Coalition, who you should definitely subscribe to, especially as they plan more content in the future. Its cast is as follows:

  • Valkienyx as The Hero
  • Kevin Lauer as The Veteran
  • John Jennetta as The Cadet
  • Justin Foster as The Sidekick
  • Violet Hayami as Eagle-1
  • Evan Boymel as Commander Puller

In the YouTube comments, the voice actor for The Veteran says, “This film was built on a $0 budget, one delay, one broken NDA, a destroyed hard-drive, 15 months of development and a small team with nothing but passion, talent and time”. This just emphasises how amazing it is and why it needs to be seen as the final result is truly incredible.

There is a download link in the description. This is because the creators “want you to experience the project in all its intended quality, free of ads”. There’s also a “version prepared for dubbing,” which they have included to “make it easy for anyone to translate into their native language so it can be shared and enjoyed without interruption”.

Sony is making a Helldivers 2 movie

Plot Coalition’s fan-film is incredible as it perfectly represents the Helldivers 2 experience. Sony is officially making a movie, and we can only hope it pays as much respect to Arrowhead’s universe.

The movie from Sony is extremely early in-development, so don’t expect it for years to come. All we know is that Arrowhead don’t have “final say,” but they do want it to “kill as many A-list actors as possible”. Arrowhead would also love to see Craig Lee Thomas in the movie, as he has brilliantly brought John Helldiver to life on stages such as The Game Awards in 2024.

Video game adaptations aren’t flawless, but they are a lot better than before. The live-action Sonic trilogy is enjoyed by fans, the Fallout Amazon Prime series is excellent, and the Super Mario Bros. movie is a huge hit, with Galaxy coming soon. We hope the Helldivers movie will be a hit, too, but it remains to be seen.

Fortunately, whether the eventual movie is good or not, we have the fantastic For Liberty! to watch. It’s almost an hour-long, and it’s definitely of a super professional quality.

As for the actual Helldivers 2 video game, the Python Commandos Warbond is releasing on December 2. It includes a chainsaw and minigun, and Arrowhead has corrected a “mistake” prior to its release.
