At VideoGamer, we’re committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful community for all gaming enthusiasts. Whether you’re reading our articles, engaging in our comment sections, participating in discussions, or interacting with us on social media, we expect all community members to uphold these standards of conduct.
This Code of Conduct applies to all interactions on VideoGamer and our affiliated platforms.
Our Community Values
We believe that gaming brings people together from all walks of life, and that diversity makes our community stronger. We welcome passionate discussions about games, hardware, and gaming culture, provided they remain respectful and constructive.
Expected Behavior
Respectful Communication
Treat all community members with respect and courtesy, even when opinions differ. Engage in good faith discussions and assume the best intentions from others. Remember that there’s a real person behind every username.
Constructive Criticism
We encourage thoughtful debate and diverse viewpoints about games and gaming topics. However, criticism should focus on ideas and content, not personal attacks on other users, developers, or our team members.
Stay On Topic
Keep comments and discussions relevant to the content being discussed. Off-topic conversations, while sometimes natural, should not dominate or derail ongoing discussions.
Welcome New Members
Gaming communities thrive when experienced members help newcomers feel welcome. We were all new to gaming or specific titles at some point. Share your knowledge generously and create an environment where questions are encouraged.
Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are not tolerated in our community:
Harassment and Hate Speech
We have zero tolerance for harassment, bullying, hate speech, or discriminatory remarks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic. This includes derogatory comments, slurs, and targeted personal attacks.
Threats and Doxxing
Threats of violence or harm toward any person are strictly prohibited and will be reported to appropriate authorities. Sharing or threatening to share someone’s personal information (doxxing) will result in an immediate ban.
Spam and Self-Promotion
Do not use VideoGamer to spam links, advertise your own products or services, or repeatedly post the same content. Unsolicited commercial messages, repetitive posting, or attempts to drive traffic away from our platform may result in account restrictions.
Inappropriate Content
Do not post, link to, or promote sexually explicit content, graphic violence, or other material that would be inappropriate for our diverse, all-ages community. Use good judgment about what’s appropriate to share.
Illegal Activity
Do not post, promote, or encourage anything that violates applicable laws. This includes but is not limited to pirated content, cheating software, unauthorized account sharing or selling, drugs and controlled substances, or coordinating any illegal activities.
Cheating and Exploits
Do not share, promote, or provide instructions for cheats, hacks, exploits, or other methods that give unfair advantages in games. Discussing game balance and legitimate strategies is fine, but facilitating cheating is not.
False Reports and Bad Faith Actions
Do not abuse our reporting system by falsely reporting content or users. Reports should be genuine and made in good faith to maintain community standards.
Spoilers
Be considerate about spoilers for games, especially new releases. Use spoiler warnings in your post titles and spoiler tags when discussing plot points, endings, or major reveals. A good rule of thumb is to mark spoilers for at least 3 months after a game’s release.
Reporting Violations
If you witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it to our moderation team immediately.
Content Moderation
VideoGamer staff and volunteer moderators have the final say on what content is appropriate for our platform. We may remove content or restrict accounts even if the specific behavior isn’t explicitly listed in this Code of Conduct, if we determine it violates the spirit of these guidelines or harms the community.
Our Commitment
VideoGamer is dedicated to creating a space where gaming enthusiasts can share their passion, learn from each other, and engage in meaningful discussions. We take our responsibility to maintain a healthy community seriously and will continue to evolve our policies as needed.
By participating in VideoGamer’s community, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive environment for all members.
Together, we can build a community that celebrates gaming while treating everyone with respect and dignity.
