GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that a number of highly placed UK sources have revealed an Xbox 360 release date of November 25th 2005 in the UK, with the US release expected a few days prior to the console’s debut on these shores. The sources have also revealed that an official announcement to trade will be made on August 15th at the Games Convention in Leipzig, with a public announcement coming on August 17th.

GamesIndustry’s sources were confident of the UK release date, but openly admitted the retail price for the Xbox 360 is still uncertain and any price point given is currently just a “best guess.

The original plan was UKP 249, but now that Sony is talking about the PS3 being expensive, UKP 299 is looking more likely,” said one source.

If a UK retail price of £299 is correct, does this mean a US retail price of around $500? This would be much higher than the $300 currently expected by market watchers. The sources are much more certain about software pricing, with a number of Xbox 360 titles to be priced at £44.99, a figure said to be higher than Microsoft had wished. So far Microsoft has refused to comment on these reports.
