The Wii U controller is designed to be used in the same room as the base unit, raising worries about the range of the device.

Asked what kind of distance you can move the Wii U remote from the base unit without losing the connection, Nintendo visionary Shigeru Miyamoto said:

“Without going into the whether or not it is physically possible to use the device throughout your house, the device is designed for you to have your Wii U controller and television in the same room,” he explained to Kotaku.

“They are designed to interact with one another.”

This will undoubtedly upset those who had images of playing a bit of Zelda in bed, Mario on the loo or Harvest Moon in the garden – but there’s no concrete information to put an exact figure on the range distance yet. Shigsy’s comments won’t fill anybody with hope, however.
