We’ve all been there: you pick up the latest must-have game, rush home with it, and then find that it’s simply not to your tastes at all.

Naturally, most of us will persevere and try to build a relationship with our new game. But what if love fails to blossom? According to Toshimischi Mori, creator of the BlazBlue series, it might be time to move on.

“It’s like finding a new girlfriend,” said Mori, speaking to VideoGamer.com last week. “You find a new girl, and as you date you finally find out, ‘Oh, she’s not really for me!’ To find the best game for yourself, that’s the way it is. It’s the same for all the games on the market.”

Mori added that if things are going well, you should stay faithful to your game of choice.

Arc System Works’ recent games have included BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and the extremely taxing Hard Corps: Uprising. For his part, Mori is clear about the appeal of such hardcore titles.

“It’s that feeling of achievement. If you play more and more, you get to feel that you’ve achieved more goals. It’s satisfying. With casual games you can be a fan of the game instantly, but for hardcore games you have to spend time. As you spend more and more time, you get more joy out of it.”
