Valve has announced SteamOS, a free operating system designed for your living room that uses Linux architecture to further enhance PC gaming on your television.
Enabling in-home streaming of Windows and Mac games straight to your TV, SteamOS will also cater for family sharing – so you can lend games to others – and, eventually, music, TV and movie streaming options as well.
Valve is also confident that users will be have a greater amount of control of games in terms of feedback and modding with both hardware and software.
Following the implementation of Big Picture on Steam, this is next step forward for Valve’s living room experience and may be the prelude to the much-rumoured Steam Box.
Another announcement is set to take place 6pm BST this Wednesday.
