The merging of US retail giants Electronics Boutique and Gamestop seems likely to go ahead. The proposed merger was announced in April to go ahead in quarter three 2005. The companies had to wait to give the FTC the chance to investigate the deal. The waiting period has now expired with no intervention coming so the merger should now go ahead as planned.
All that is left is the agreement of both companies’ shareholders, who are reportedly keen for the deal to go ahead. The merger is likely to take place in September giving EB/Gamestop around 3000 stores in the US, Canada, Europe and Puerto Rico.
