It was bound to happen, and it now seems that it has. Sony’s UMD copy protection has been cracked. People have managed to pull the data off the discs, making pricy one step closer; a worrying development for Sony and the industry as a whole. There is currently no way to use the data that has been ripped, but I’d imagine that people are working on that problem as you read this.
Hopefully they won’t be successful. Nintendo’s GameBoy handhelds have suffered from piracy in the past, and many auction sites unknowingly sell illegal pirated games. As of yet the Nintendo DS hasn’t fallen victim of piracy, but there are rumours that devices to play downloaded DS games will be available soon. It would be a shame to see Nintendo DS and Sony PSP games pirated so early into the consoles’ lives and hopefully it’s further away than people think.
