Remember the exciting Phantom console that Infinium Labs have been ‘preparing’ over the past few years? Have you been treating it with the same air of skepticism that everyone else has? We’d imagine that you probably have. Well this latest news may be what everyone has suspected for some time. Infinium have always been dogged with what their CEO describes as ‘yellow journalism’ and this new information is unlikely to change press attitudes.
As it stands the company needs another 12 millions dollars for production and marketing costs in order to meet a 2005 release date. The end of 2005 that is, which could also clash with the predicted release of the Xbox 2. Ouch. Things are not looking good and despite internal optimism, this may be the end that a lot of people have predicted.
Whether the console will ever see the light of day (apart from the meager 25 that do exist) at all is the big question, but is a question that will be answered if the 12 million cash injection never appears. Though in this crazy industry, you never know. We’ll keep you posted with any more Phantom related activities as we get them.
