A new Battlefield 4 patch designed to improve the online multiplayer experience has begun rolling out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and will roll out later this week on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

While general networking tweaks have worked their way into all versions of the patch, the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions are also receiving a new 'High Frequency Network Update', which updates data within a certain radius of the player at a faster rate. The result, DICE says, is a "smoother, more 'correct' player experience".

Players will have to enable the new high frequency setting in the options menu, with those on a connection faster than 1Mbit recommended to set the option to High. Players with a lower bandwidth will be able to reduce the setting to Low or Medium.

The update will initially roll to all 48 player servers on PS4 and Xbox One, and on a "small set" of 64 player servers. Provided all goes well, all servers will receive the update after 24 hours of it rolling out.

To see how much of a difference the update makes, take a look at the video below.

"This is the first release to contain CTE-tested 'Netcode' fixes and improvements," said DICE. "We are still hard at work with additional improvements and tweaks to better our network experience that did not make this release.

"We hope to utilize the Community Test Environment for future release to ensure quality and stability across all platforms. If you wish to take part in this testing, the CTE still has slots open. The current requirement is to own a PC copy of Battlefield 4 with a Premium memebership [sic] to sign up."

Further bug fixes and tweaks are also included in the patch, including improvements to collision detection and physics. For the full list, head through to the Battlefield Blog.
