Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion is over and according to Microsoft it was a massive success.

With releases including Shadow Complex, Trials HD and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Microsoft has said Xbox LIVE Arcade set a new monthly revenue record with a 200 per cent growth over last year's Summer of Arcade program.

"It's clear that we've had an incredibly successful summer, and the Xbox LIVE community loves the innovative gaming experiences we deliver," said Scott Austin, director of digitally distributed games on Xbox LIVE. "We are the leader in digitally distributed games, have the best partners in the industry and work closely with them to offer the best in downloadable content and entertainment."

Is Microsoft right to call itself the leader in digitally distributed games? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I think its fairer to say that Apple are leading the way when it comes to digital distribution. The App Store has generated BILLIONS of dollars.

At the moment it's fair to say that Microsoft has got it just right as to downloadable console content. Pricing is another matter.

Oh, and they might want to consider something called the PC... :D
