Volatile Games today announced its development of Dead to Rights: Retribution, a re-imagining of the action franchise for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The game is set in the neo-noir, morally corrupt and nightmarish world of Grant City and will immerse players in a dark, dangerous and tragic narrative as vice-cop Jack Slate. Together with vicious sidekick Shadow, Jack must fight to expose the underworld figures which currently control the city.

According to Volatile the game will feature an innovative hybrid combat system said to unify third person shooting, hand-to-hand fighting and AI dog, Shadow, into a seamless gameplay experience. Players will be able to take control of Shadow at various points throughout the game, teaming up with Jack to combat the enemy threat.

"Dead to Rights: Retribution is a fresh look at the franchise, with a ground-up design for the game mechanics, world, characters and narrative," explained Imre Jele, Project Director for Volatile Games. "We've re-imagined Dead to Rights for both fans of the franchise and a brand new audience alike."

Dead to Rights: Retribution will be published by Namco Bandai for Xbox 360 and PS3. Atari is handling the game's distribution across Europe.
