Tomonobu Itagaki has blamed last week’s wave of negative Devil’s Third previews on the ability of the player, claiming that it’s a game “which reflects the player’s skill directly” and “vividly”.

Addressing the previews on Facebook, Itagaki said: “Guys, At last, I was be able to understand about the reactions. Devil’s Third is the game which reflects the player’s skill directly/vividly.

“This is truth.”

He later explained that he wished to release “GENUINE playing footage by my director, Ehara”, and said that “no words are needed” about the game’s multiplayer, claiming that it is “great”.

Itagaki’s comments follow shortly after he advised that players use a Wii U Pro Controller to play Devil’s Third, claiming that the position of the face buttons on the standard Wii U GamePad meant that players could “easily press the wrong button”, causing them to die. He also cited issues with the GamePad’s weight and the distance between the two analogue sticks.

Tom took an early look at Devil’s Third last week and came away distinctly unimpressed.

“By all means wait until reviews, hopeful that I’m wrong or all games journalists are wrong,” he wrote, “but by my early reckoning Devil’s Third will go down in history as one of the worst games Nintendo ever published.”

Devil’s Third launches in the UK on August 28 exclusively on Wii U.
