A free copy of the original Bayonetta will not be included in the solus edition of Bayonetta 2 in the UK and Europe, Nintendo has clarified. Instead, the offer will be limited to the US.

Confirmation follows confusion overnight following the announcement of Bayonetta 2's Special Edition (£44.99) and First Print Edition (£59.99), which both include a physical disc-based copy of the original game alongside Bayonetta 2, and the solus edition "which includes just Bayonetta 2".

The decision to charge extra for the original game in Europe has led to disappointment amongst fans hoping to see the title included with every copy of Bayonetta 2.

Back in June, Nintendo US issued a press release stating: "Bayonetta comes packed in with the purchase of every retail packaged version of Bayonetta 2". It was immediately followed by a press release issued by Nintendo UK that suggested the same could be true for Europe.

"Brimming with intricate battles that take place in, on and all over epic set pieces, Bayonetta 2 finds the sassy heroine battling angels and demons in unearthly beautiful HD," reads the UK press release. "Maniacal magic, warped weapons and some serious attitude make up Bayonetta's deadly arsenal. Best of all, the original Bayonetta game comes bundled with the retail packaged version of Bayonetta 2, complete with some Nintendo surprises and Nintendo cosplay options for Bayonetta."

But a Nintendo UK representative told this morning that the announcement was intended only for the US market, and that it had now detailed the line-up of editions available in Europe.

At least two major UK retailers, however, have previously sold - or are still selling - the solus edition of Bayonetta 2 on the promise that it also includes a copy of the original game.

GAME's original listing for Bayonetta 2's solus edition, which you can still see in Google Cache, stated that it included a copy of the original Bayonetta. The reference to the original game has since been deleted.

Meanwhile, Amazon UK's listing for the solus edition still states that it "also includes Bayonetta 1". The listing is inaccurate, the representative clarified.

UPDATE 17/09/14: Amazon has begun upgrading Bayonetta 2 pre-orders to the Special Edition free of charge, ensuring original customers receive both the original Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 as previously advertised.

we were told this a while ago no? But it was all very confusing. I'm just getting the version with Bayonetta I reckon.

Interestingly, Americans are complaining because they don't get the disc version of Bayonetta, it comes digitally, and they're not getting the special edition either, plus the cost is higher than usual.

We're getting a lower cost single disc set, a retail cost double disc set with the first game on disc, not digitally, and a special edition too.

Well it's not all that bad. Shopto have a deal on at the minute were you get both games for £39.85 "Special Edition" available in the United Kingdom. Maybe this has not been communicated that great though? Who knows.

It's really less about the price and more to do with the idea that the Americans yet again get a great deal, whilst us in Europe have to settle for a deal not as good.

In my case, this is rather annoying considering I was on the fence to begin with.

So, basically, for the cost of one 'next gen' game, you get 2 games, or just buy the cheaper game without the first one included. The retail price for the double pack is standard retail for most new games.

Yeah, that's a dick move for your European fans Nintendo.

I was thinking about buying Bayonetta 2, partially because of the 2 games for one deal, partially to support the development of mature games for Wii U, and partially because there isn't much else I'm interested in buying for my Wii U coming out soon except Smash Bros. Bayonetta's style doesn't really appeal to me, but I enjoyed W101 so I was going to look past that to enjoy the gameplay.

Although, now since I'd have to pay extra to get the two games pack, I honestly can't be bothered. I'll just save my money for the "New"3DS next year.

Well then fu** them, I'm not putting up with this discriminating bull*****.
Could've bought an xbox one instead of this crappy console, that was a mistake...
Nintendo continues to look clueless and disappoint...

Not very cool. Cancelled a pre-order. The two was a great deal for any Wii U owners looking for something to play post-MK8 and before 2015's big 1st party releases.

They just keep shooting themselves in the foot.
