An “innovative” new Skylanders game is in development for release later this year, Activision has announced.

While further details on the game have yet to be revealed it’s expected to be developed by Vicarious Visions, the creators of 2013’s 9/10-rated Skylanders: Swap Force rather than original creators Toys For Bob.

Meanwhile, last year’s Skylanders: Trap Team is said to have ended 2014 as the “#1 top‐selling kids console game globally”, putting Skylanders at the top of kids’ most-wanted lists for three years in a row.

Over 240 million Skylanders toys have been sold worldwide since the series made its debut in 2011, helping to generate over $3 billion in sales revenue.
