UPDATE 2 - APRIL 13: Burke has apologised to Konami, Kojima and fans for her comments, clarifying that "Kojima has not actually been fired".

UPDATE: A Konami representative has denied Burke's claims, telling VideoGamer.com that the suggestion Kojima has been fired is "categorically incorrect".

ORIGINAL STORY: Hideo Kojima was "fired" by upper management at Konami, according to tweets made by Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes voice actress Donna Burke.

"Yes don't throw away the Kojima teams work over the last 5 years because upper management fired a genius," Burke tweeted earlier today.

When asked whether she had just confirmed that Kojima was fired, Burke replied: "yes but it's been out in the media for weeks..but it's true"

Burke provided the voice for the iDroid in last year's Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and sang the theme to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain 'Sins of the Father'.

Her comments follow a report last month claiming that Kojima is to leave Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain this September.

It was also discovered that Konami had removed Kojima's name and the Kojima Productions' logo from Metal Gear Solid branding. His name was later reinserted into older Metal Gear Solid titles.

A Konami representative was not immediately available for comment.

Kojima is overrated, MGS4 was a self-indulgent mess.

That's harder than you think, he saved his career with Metal Gear and that turned him into the most well known game developer in the east and west.

As for people saying the situation is a publicity stunt, it makes no sense and could do more harm than good.

Edit- Since people are apparently cancelling preorders, it proves my point.

I would hardly say that creating a genre of game, pioneering the story-telling abilities of video games, creating one of the longest running franchises in gaming history, and creating some of, not only the most technically adventurous, but also cinematically and for many players emotionally adventurous games can be chalked up as "The guy made some great games, that's it."

While I wouldn't go so far to say he is a genius I would say that the credit he is due for his endeavours are a sight more than what you have given him.

Jesus...

This doesn't really make sense, why would they just fire him? Surely something would have got leaked, if this is the case.

I'm inclined to believe this, as far as i'm aware, she hasn't got any reason to make this up. I'm sure some people will say "uggghhh it's obvs a publicity stunt" but just doesn't make any sense.

As for Kojima being a genius; please. The guy made some great games, that's it.
