UPDATE 2 – APRIL 13: Burke has apologised to Konami, Kojima and fans for her comments, clarifying that “Kojima has not actually been fired”.

UPDATE: A Konami representative has denied Burke’s claims, telling VideoGamer.com that the suggestion Kojima has been fired is “categorically incorrect”.

ORIGINAL STORY: Hideo Kojima was “fired” by upper management at Konami, according to tweets made by Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes voice actress Donna Burke.

“Yes don’t throw away the Kojima teams work over the last 5 years because upper management fired a genius,” Burke tweeted earlier today.

When asked whether she had just confirmed that Kojima was fired, Burke replied: “yes but it’s been out in the media for weeks..but it’s true”

Burke provided the voice for the iDroid in last year’s Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and sang the theme to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ‘Sins of the Father’.

Her comments follow a report last month claiming that Kojima is to leave Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain this September.

It was also discovered that Konami had removed Kojima’s name and the Kojima Productions’ logo from Metal Gear Solid branding. His name was later reinserted into older Metal Gear Solid titles.

A Konami representative was not immediately available for comment.
