Sony has reversed its decision to require an ongoing PlayStation Plus subscription to access the upgraded version of DriveClub's PS Plus Edition.

The reversal follows outcry from fans earlier this week that saw some PS4 users launch a petition for Sony to drop the PlayStation Plus requirements from the upgraded edition.

Sony initially stated that an ongoing PS Plus membership would be required for players to access the PS Plus Edition even after they'd spent £42.99 to upgrade it to the full version, with access to the game being revoked should their subscription expire.

"Our priority for DRIVECLUB is to enable you to play and enjoy everything it has to offer and PlayStation recognises that the prior plan for DRIVECLUB entitlement for the upgrade to the PS Plus edition was not appropriate," Sony said on PlayStation Blog. "As a result, we have adjusted the PlayStation Plus terms for DRIVECLUB.

"Now, If you intend on downloading DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition, and upgrading to the full game experience, you will have access to the full game even if your PlayStation Plus subscription runs out."

A PlayStation Plus membership will still be required to initially access DriveClub's PS Plus Edition, but will not be required once it's been upgraded to the full version.

DriveClub - and its PS Plus Edition - are due to launch on PS4 on October 10.

A bad idea walked back with suitable speed, I was worried Sony were starting to walk down the lonely road of PS3 arrogance. I'm still sore that the PS+ edition is more of an expansive demo than what was described as being a full game with 'a bit' removed but hey at least I can try before buying.

The real trick now is whether anyone will get all those Logitech wheels from PS4 working on PS4. Logitech is out of the wheel business and they used a licensed version of Immersion's tech for the rumble so I'm going to bet no. Not Sony's fault but damned disappointing when the only other alternative is the all-but-gold-plated Thrustmaster TS500

It's still too expensive.

Good to see them remove that requirement as it's a bit of a deal breaker. It would be understandable if the upgrade was free (with PS+), but since you pay that much for it there's really no reason for it to disappear. Hopefully that was just a accidental mess-up on their part.
