Leaks claim next generation of Pokémon is “greenlit for the Switch successor”

The last week has been pretty intense for the video games industry. Amidst heartbreaking studio closures, Nintendo took it upon themselves to breathe some much needed life back into the zeitgeist. This took place in the form of a pretty loose, mostly comical, and infinitely meme-able tweet announcing the eventual announcement of the Nintendo Switch’s successor.

Recent leaks have been equally illuminating though, with the supposed next generation of Pokémon games already having been greenlit for the hardware. On it’s own, this is not very remarkable news at all. Pokémon is the biggest franchise in the world, and there’s no reason for it to skip over Nintendo’s next flagship for any reason.

What is interesting, though, is that there’s apparently 3 Pokémon projects that have been laid out in the pipeline. Whether or not these individual “projects” relates to a specific game is unclear. These could be three games belonging to the same generation of mainline games, or they could be spin-offs like Pokken Tournament and Mystery Dungeon. The latter seems unlikely, especially considering that we’re getting another Shiren game this year, though there’s always a chance.

If we were to get another title outside of the mainline generation, it’s most likely just going to be another Pokémon Legends entry.

There’s a strong chance that the recently established “Pokémon Works” subsidiary set up by the Pokemon Company will play a big part in the upcoming Pokémon releases. There’s been little word on what this is going to be, though there are rumours that it could be a Black and White Remake. That’s most likely going to be the next remake we see, unless they decide to leapfrog over it and go straight for X and Y. As a devout Kalos-stan, you will not see me complain about that once.

There is a part of me that is looking at this leak with intense scepticism. There’s no source to the leak, nor any information that we didn’t all already know deep down.
