An image of an alleged Xbox One devkit has appeared online.

The picture shows a white Xbox One similar in design to the retail model, and - judging by comments from a "confirmed XB1 dev" - appears to be legit.

"The zebra ones were also earlier devkits," the developer posted on Reddit in response to the image. "We've gone though several revisions since the original alpha kit (giant server case) and the current one we have looks like the launch version."

It isn't clear from the developer's comments whether the console in the picture is of the current Xbox One devkit, or an earlier version.

Previous Xbox One devkits featured unique zebra-patterned designs to help prevent images of them being leaked, and before that, appeared to resemble PC towers.

Xbox One launches this November.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

The white finish certainly makes the console looks less like a VHS player. Would you have preferred it?

I prefer the black personally. Most AV equipment is black or silver and if the original black was designed to be unobtrusive then this doesnt fit that ethos.

However if I had a trendy Ikea living room then it would probably fit better lol

Black is probably superior from a dark room perspective - you don't want bright surfaces that can easily be illuminated by light from the TV. That said, you also don't want a mirror polish... maybe it's best to hide the device and not care what it looks like.

Note that the power button is different to retailer Xbox Ones, which have the Xbox logo, I call BS.

I think MS should at least offer at as an option further down the line. It's "Apple-esque".
