The Buzz: Play as Jack, but not as you might know him.
This week news that EA's Visceral Studio (Dead Space, Dante's Inferno) is working on a new title based on Jack the Ripper hit the headlines - even if the news first broke earlier this summer.
According to Destructoid sources, The Ripper will see players taking control of Jack, but not the Jack you might expect. The Ripper's version of the infamous serial killer isn't a psychopathic serial killer, but a good guy who only kills to save the lives of others.
Destructoid goes on to add that Jack will be a supernatural slayer, protecting innocents from demons, vampires and other things that go bump in the night. Our hero will have an assortment of over-the-top weapons at his disposal to take down these nasties, and he'll also be able to slow down time.

I really think they should scrap the game or remove anything relating to the Jack the Ripper murderer.
All they have to do is go on edit, find, change name. Not that hard at all.

When this game comes out it will receive a major media outburst. I'm sure of that.
Then again, who wouldn't want to play as a Inspt chasing down Jack The Ripper? I think the game would do well in that perspective, or I could totally get shot up the arse and playing as Jack may actually be good...

I don't mind games like Manhunt myself but when it is involving a real life mass murder, I think thats going too far.
If this game got released then it wouldn't be too long untill we see Ted Bundy the game.
Normally the press go well over the top, but this would quite rightly get people angry.

I mentioned Keith Vaz & Manhunt because of it being linked to a killing. When there is something (forgotten where I read it now) about the game not being related to the causes of that murder.
Ronnie Briggs: The Great Train Robber? I'm gathering someone will evenutally make a game out of that.

If Manhunt didn't come out then something else would have inspired them, like Texas Chainsaw or a Tarrintino film.
I think we all know what knives, guns etc can kill and have seen it films loads of times.
My problem is the morals of the people making the game, because straight away I asked myself a question.
How would I feel if someone made a game about a serial killer who had brutally killed someone I knew?
It dosen't matter the relatives etc have passed away, the principle remains in my view.

From that piece of information. The game will not be portraying you the player to go around killing hookers as the killings of Jack The Ripper was mainly hookers.
They have taken the name which will of cause be the controversial point about this game. All I can see is, that they may have to change the name than dumping the game altogether.
Will most probably get blown out of proportion.

I'm not keen on their turning what is an opportunity to relate to a famous story, and event, in a new way; into some weird sci-fi hybrid.
They might as well pay for the team that were working on that Harker project to get back to work on that, by the sound of things. Disappointing. They could, by all means, alter Jack's reasoning for his actions, do something with the character itself, or something; (it practically presents a blank canvas for a character artist to work with) but a warden of the night, vampires and the like? Utter trash.Last edited on Wed 7 October 2009 by Machetazo
