Over 250,000 PlayStation 4 consoles were sold in the UK during its first 48 hours on sale, MCV reports.

The figure puts the console's initial sales at around 66 per cent higher than the Xbox One, which was alleged to have sold around 150,000 within its first two days.

MCV also suggests that the figure puts initial hardware revenue at around £87m.

Though Sony has yet to confirm sales figures, Chart Track revealed this morning that PS4 had become the fastest-selling console in the UK, outselling PSP's 185,000 launch sales.

PS4 launched in the UK last Friday with stock already thought to have sold out across the country.

Update: It has been confirmed that both the Xbox One and PS4 have already outsold the life-to-date Wii U sales in the UK.

1) I still have my XBox 360, on which I have several years worth of gaming yet to experience, several thousand achievements yet to unlock, and a whopping back catalogue to get through
2) I don't have any XBox One games, and a few months from now I still couldn't see myself having any XBox One games
3) CEX bought it for £485, I got it for free in a comp
4) The PS4 is better for me imho, therefore I now have the funds to get one, and a camera, and a spare controller, and a couple of games when they become available for it
5) thru 9999) word count limit exceeded.

why did you sell your One? Not happy with it or just doing a bit of dealing for some extra squid?

My local CEX in Bristol has both consoles in stock, they're charging an extra £100 above RRP though for those desparate enough. Sold my One there today :)

You must be livid. Knowing that someone like me walked into my local Asda store on Sunday and picked a PS4 up no problems and sold it on to some desperate bum. (An employee at CEX)

I would guess most preorders are fulfilled and while the small number that have not may not be that significant in terms of sales.

But Im guessing that not all EU countries will have the consoles.

it'll probably increase expedentially considering there's still a whole bunch of preorders that haven't been fulfilled yet, like mine for example.

Apparently its 700k in Europe and Australasia which is a lot lower than I expected. Would have thought 700k would be Europe alone.

that is actually a very good point, I'd love to see the numbers for EU with UK included

My post wasnt meant to be a negative one as 25% of US sales is good for us as a country that has a population which is 20% of the US, which means sales wise the UK is punching above it weight which is great for Brits.

But at the same time UK market is part of the EU market and it would be more fairer to compare EU to US sales rather than UK to US.

And it gives us an idea what the PS4 vs XBone sales are.

you've got to remember that compared the US, the UK is absolutely tiny. 250k is an unreal number!

read this story elsewhere, the other article included the fact that

"Sony's console beat the Wii U's first-year sales in ONE WEEKEND."

...had to lol even though i had alot of nintendo consoles & hand-helds (though no Wii-u)

Even though that is 25% of what the PS4 did in the US it would still be interresting to see the sales figure for the rest of Europe to see how well the PS4 did in Europe compared to the US as well as XBone as a whole

Nope. I've seen plenty of Xbox ones available off the shelf in Tesco and Asda for example so I do not think it was sold out.

Weren't both consoles XO and Ps4 sold out in the UK at both their launches therefore meaning that Ps4 only sold more due to the fact that there were more of it stocked by retailers than there were XO's.
