New super slim PlayStation 3 due on September 28 alongside FIFA 13 bundle
500GB model launches first, followed by a 12GB flash memory model on October 12.
A new super slim PlayStation 3 with a sliding lid has been announced by Sony, with a 500GB model due for release on September 28 alongside a FIFA 13 console and game bundle.
The new console design is considerably smaller than previous PS3 models. The internal volume and weight of the new PS3 is reduced by more than half compared to the very first PS3 model with a 60GB HDD, and by 20 per cent and 25 per cent respectively compared to the current PS3.

As well as the new 500GB model, a cheaper 12GB flash memory model will launch on October 12. Owners of the 12GB model will be able to expand their storage by connecting a five inch SATA internal hard drive or by purchasing an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD. Existing slim PlayStation 3 models will be phased out.
Neither new model has been given a UK RRP, with Sony stating that this is dictated by "individual retailers themselves". Across Europe the 500GB FIFA 13 bundle will sell for around €299.99, while the 12GB model is priced €229.99 standalone.
Other bundles will be released in the coming months, with consumers able to buy a PS3 alongside Assassins Creed 3, and Wonderbook: Book of Spells.
A new vertical stand will also be released for the new PS3, bringing back memories of the stand released for the PlayStation 2.

EDIT: Just found a samsung 2.5" sata 1TB hard drive for £66.80. Seems like a good price so i'm gonna go for that one i think, sorry Sony but you can keep your new slimmer model. More gb are more important to me than design.

Also felt I could use the PS3 as a media centre when I'm done with it as a console but I think getting an upgrade for Vita is more vital.

(I was gona go with a 1TB but I also needed to get a 32gb card for my Vita and I could only bring myself to spend so much money on memory in one month!)

I wouldn't mind a 500gb model but my 250gb will have to do, the next console i spend that much on will hopefully be next gen. I say hopefully in case my ps3/360 checks out early
