Microsoft is "looking into" the possibility of including a headset in the box with Xbox One after all, according to a tweet from the firm's senior director of product management and planning.

Albert Penello teased fans with the news yesterday while responding to a Tweet asking whether a headset would be supplied with the console.

"We've heard the feedback," Penello said. "Looking into it."

Microsoft has previously stated that Xbox One will not include a headset in the box – a decision often frowned upon by fans.

Instead, the platform holder is hoping players will use Kinect to communicate with friends over Xbox LIVE, which is included with every console.

It was rumoured earlier this month that Xbox One would ship with a headset following a listing by the console's official distributor Gem. The company later told that its listing was a mistake. has contacted Microsoft for comment.

We've had the option to have just voice or game and voice coming through the standard wired headsets since I cant even remember when. In mono of course, what do you expect for £15 or whatever. £35 is about right for a good full stereo headset. Andy more and i'd start to expect surround sound and built in amplifiers etc.

I would be suprised if current headsets didn't work, and if they don't I can only hope adaptors will be made. I can't see the 3rd party OEM's being too pleased if they aren't :S

A headset is an essential requirement for using Xbox Live-wired or wireless this is great news!!
I would argue that all we really need from an included set is a voice channel, as opposed to an audio/game channel, to allow communication between players. I personally find it embarrassing when the dull, monotonous (and usually abusive) droll of public lobbies spills out of my sound system.

The wireless one is leaps and bounds ahead of the wired headset - which is the one that would likely see inclusion. But since the 360 controllers are compatible, does that mean the existing headsets will ikely work as well...?

Still, if they did that, removed Kinect 2.0, shaved £100 off accordingly, I'd be there Day One.

Only way I can see this happening is if they release a SKU without Kinect that includes the Headset.

They should just say "Kinect is the headset", but then most people already know how annoyingly good Kinect is at picking up extraneous sounds from half a mile away and making comms practically useless.

If they do bundle a headset it'll be the usual cheap thing that doesn't feed game sound, just chat, and everyone will run out and buy a Turtle Beach or equivalent to use instead.

So their only option as I see it is to bundle something high quality. Probably a better option than that is to go back to the drawing board altogether with their whole concept for games consoles but it's probably too late for that.
