Future exploring revival of GamesMaster TV show

Remains the most successful UK video games show of all time.

Future Publishing has revealed it is exploring the possibility of reviving its GamesMaster brand on TV screens.

The video games show remains the UK's most successful of its kind, running from 1991 until 1998.

The news comes as Future announced the May launch of its extensively redesigned GamesMaster magazine, which promises to reflect the way gamers are playing in 2010.

Simon Maxwell, Group Publisher of Future’s Console and Online portfolio, commented: "GamesMaster is a key gaming brand for Future and there are some fantastic opportunities to expand its reach and influence beyond the magazine. This year, we'll bring a comprehensively redesigned GamesMaster magazine to market, develop an online presence through our existing sites, and explore the appetite for bringing the show back to TV."

The July issue of GamesMaster goes on sale Thursday, May 20.

I remember GamesMaster being complete bollocks, come on lets be honest. It was just watching people play games and then Patrick Moore giving out cheats for games you didn't have.

Bad Influence was the best gaming TV show the nation has ever seen.

Brooker? No, no, no, no, NO! He is brilliant at what he does, and I really am a fan, but he isn't the man for this job. Diamond was basically an adult stand-up comedian with his tongue practically poking through his cheek, on a show that was packaged as 'Kids TV', and that is what made it work. Brooker would be too confrontational, lacking that 'Cheeky Chappie' attitude that allowed Diamond to get away with so much.

All I hope is that they choose contestants more carefully. At least give us people that know how to play this time round!

Be interesting to see what they come up with in this day and age. I used to enjoy watching games something or other on sjt - the one done like a victorian bare knuckle fight.

Gameface - the latest from bravo was pretty bad from what I saw. I think if they did get dominic diamond again it would alienate alot of the 'kids'. I say get charlie brooker on the job - at least behind the scenes.

Useless fact 1: My son shares a birthday with Dominik Diamond :)

If Dom doesn't present it, it won't be worth it imo. I can't think of anyone that could fill his shoes adequately.

GamesMaster was awesome! Dominik Diamond was also an great host. I'd LOVE to see it back, there are hardly any good video game programs anymore. Bravo does a couple but they are pretty crappy. I actually think GameOver on the tech channel was the best video game program ever but the channel got canned :(

I'm actually really pleased the magazine is relaunching aswell, I used to buy the mag religiously for years then I got too old for it. I hope the new format is a little more adult orientated and I would definitely give it a try.
