Activision sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide as of day one, the publisher has announced.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launched worldwide on November 5.

"Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. "More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular."

Activision says that millions of people are already playing Ghosts online, with the game already moving to the No.1 spot in the Xbox Live chart.

Furthermore, Activision confirmed that on the Xbox 360 average player sessions for Ghosts have been longer than either Black Ops II or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, during the same time period.

"Ghosts is an amazing game which ushers in the next generation of Call of Duty. The team at Infinity Ward has delivered yet another epic thrill ride in the campaign, and what I think is our best multiplayer game yet," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.

He added: "This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title."

$1 billion of cod ghosts into retailers =/= how much has actually been made from consumer sales. activision conveniently left that number out after stupidly claiming cod would reclaim all the records gta 5 took from it.

I'm sorry to say you & every other person who's read this article today has been blinded by the misleading titles! Activision is brilliant at doing this it's not by chance! They've sold a billion $ worth of stock to retailers not sold x amount of copies to earn a billion $ BUT don't get me wrong by the time x1 & ps4 is out I'm sure they'll pass that billion $ mark! But the decline is going to happen! The reviews are the worst any cod game has ever got & it deserves to get worse than that! The most non innovative rehashed crappy franchise ever made! Milked for cash due to borderline retarded teens brainwashed by it's explosions & action! The ending of MW2 (2009) is even in there exactly the same animation like for like! Shocking! But do these blind baboons deserve anything more if they're going to buy this game year after year? No not really! So cod will go on,making money off clones, while other fresh, imaginative & innovative devs suffer trying to release & sell their better games in a market that's saturated by this stale mediocre shooter that should be dead in the water with its A.I *****ing fishes! Gimme a break new engine ok then!!

1 billion dollars but XXxxXXYolo_Blaze_MLGXXxxXxX told me that CoD sucked dick and that Battlefield was far superior in every way AND that the series was dead. (There was also something some terrible insinuations about my mother but I won't go into that.)

But seriously its quite interesting even with all this talk about the series becoming stale for seems about 3 years now that the brand is getting stronger every year. Typically its seems in this industry when you have a popular IP that you milk you milk for a sequel every year you see a steady decline, like you see in the Assassin Creed series. CoD really seems to be the only game to buck the trend (Sports games aside).

Blind Faith. Not pre-ordered any next gen games for that very reason.
