Wii U sales stand at 12.6 million units worldwide

Wii U hardware sales have reached 12.6 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2015, Nintendo reports.

Software sales for the platform total 22.62 million units, with the biggest sellers being Mario Kart 8 (7.24 million), Splatoon (4.06 million), Super Mario Maker (3.34 million) and Yoshi’s Woolly World (1.31 million).

Sony and Microsoft are comfortably ahead of Wii U with PS4 at around 36 million and Xbox One approximately 19 million, Nintendo will be hoping its NX – expected to launch this holiday season – can help rejuvenate profits which are down 31.9 per cent for the nine months ended December 31, 2015.

57.94 million 3DS systems have now been sold, including 1.71 million New 3DS and 5.8 million New 3DS Xls.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is the biggest new 3DS title, selling 2.93 million units.
