Sony "probably" would have cancelled The Last Guardian if fans hadn't kept asking for an update on the project, Shuhei Yoshida has revealed.

Speaking to EDGE, the president of SCE Worldwide Studios explained that porting the project from PS3 to PS4 was "really, really tough. Especially because we were not sure if the game could be made.

"Tech issues aside, the game was still early in development, so we had to have a really strong desire to continue the project and rebuild on PS4. And of course we believed in the vision of Ueda-san, and Ueda-san and the core teams really wanted to see this realised, and so did I. Having so many people asking us about the game was great encouragement for us to continue the development."

Asked whether Sony could realistically have cancelled the game after so many years had gone by, Yoshida replied: "If everyone stopped asking about it, probably we would have."

The Last Guardian was first revealed at a PS3 game at E3 2009 but disappeared in the years following. It was re-revealed as a PS4 title last month.

The game is currently scheduled to release in 2016.

this guy knows no shame. First he spreads misleading information regarding the PS3 not capable of handling the game. Now he is basically saying, don't complain for the delay and the gen passage and thank me for letting the game live.

Here's what Fumito Ueda said in "The Last Guardian's Long Journey: An Interview With Fumito Ueda"

"The PS3 was not restricting me from doing something." and regarding the decision to port it to PS4 and skip the PS3 release: "It was pretty much a corporate decision by Sony. And that's where we'll leave it. [laughs] Sorry."

So Yoshida thanks for nothing! We could have played the game on our PS3 in 2012 or 2013 but no, you need people buy the damn useless PS4 and sell all the useless services that come with it.

Call me cynical but I read that as

"We didnt think it was very good and was about to pull the plug but people kept asking for it so with a review embargo even if it turns out crap we will easily make our money back from pre-orders"

They could have stopped everyone asking by just announcing they'd canceled it and not issuing denials every time an article came out saying it was. But I'm not complaining.
