The ongoing server problems faced by DriveClub are “proving to be a challenging issue to address”, game director Paul Rustchynsky has admitted.

While he says that the team at Evolution is making progress at getting DriveClub back online, issues persist, forcing the developer to temporarily disable the game’s challenges, leaderboards and clubs, and delay the release of the PS Plus Edition.

“We ran a beta test and none of these issues occurred,” he said on Twitter, “we had confidence everything was ready. These issues were unexpected.”

“We did run large scale synthetic load tests with tens of thousands of concurrent users and the tests were successful.”

The main problem, Rustchynsky says, is the amount of concurrent data being passed between players. “The amount of activity per player means we’re having to limit the number of online connections.”

But it isn’t just a case of adding more servers, he says.

“We’ve got no limits to the amount of servers or the quality of hardware, its purely down to the server code having some bugs.”

Compensation to early adopters affected by the issues is being considered, too, Rustchynsky adds. “We’re considering all of our options right now,” he said replying to a fan enquiring about compensation.

A third update for the game rolled out this weekend designed to help the team get to the bottom of the problem.

“We have been working all weekend & we are making progress but its proving to be a challenging issue to address.”, Rustchynsky said.
