Dragon Age: Inquisition had “by far the most successful launch in BioWare’s history”, EA has said, with the game’s reception said to have exceeded the publisher’s expectations.

While sales figures have yet to be revealed, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen explained that much of the publisher’s success over the Christmas period was led by Dragon Age: Inquisition, alongside sports titles FIFA 15 and Madden NFL 15.

“In particular, Dragon Age: Inquisition had by far the most successful launch in BioWare’s history,” he said, “exceeding our expectations.”

Since launching in November, fans have spent over 113 million hours playing Inquisition’s single-player campaign, the publisher added.

Prior to launching Inquisition, BioWare developed games in the hit Mass Effect series, Baldur’s Gate and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Despite the game’s success, however, Inquisition didn’t appear to light up the charts in the UK, where it debuted at No.5 on its release before tumbling to No.16 the following week.

It also finished 2014 as the UK’s 35th best-selling boxed game of the year, behind such games as Thief, Alien Isolation and The Crew.
