6. Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King, PS2/PS3.

Another Square Enix RPG that's still relevant this holiday season, Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King (or Dragon Quest VIII), is a proper Japanese RPG, and, while it might be a bit daunting for newcomers to the genre, is sure to have RGP fans crying tears of joy. From the mouth of Olly: "RPG fans who have yearned for this series to make it to our shores will struggle to find a better example this generation." Another class but cheap option for PS2/PS3+backwards compatibility owners.

5. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions - PSP.

This is hands down one of my favourite RPGs ever, and one of the best games on the PSP. While it's not for everyone, it's certainly for every RPG fan. It's got classic 90s graphics, turn-based combat played out on a grid, beautiful rendered cut-scenes and a gripping story. It's also really well suited to handheld gaming - each battle shouldn't take more than 20 minutes, which, if you have a half hour commute in the morning, leaves 10 for a bit of story and some character tweaking. Perfect, enthralling and essential.

nah, mmorpg's are not synonymous with role playing games.

rpg's are offline only. like 6 nerds in a basement or elder scroll. the key is that every one is in character and or follows your commands unless they or the programing makes them a dick.

morpg's are online but usually have less then 32 players. role playing isnt enforced... usually... like a nwn mod or baldur's gate.

mmorpg's are online and the key word is massive. there are almost always more then 100 players, role playing is never enforced.

rpg's can be morpg's and vice versa but offline player story progress dosnt carry over... usualy... since there is no offline play, mmorpg's are in a genre of there own.

MMORPG Means - Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Just because it's MM0 doesn't mean it is not a Role Playing Game as it it's! Plus this was posted in 2008 get over it.

Ninjutsu pleaded his case back sometime ago in 2009 and is still right today! Now if theres anymore bickering we are both going to put a virtual boot up your arses!

World of Warcraft is very hardcore lame. I have never seen a more effective way to ruin your life. The foundations of this type of fantasy evolved from Lord of the Rings which created the stereotypes you usually see in fantasy games, novels etc. Then dungeons and dragons used ideas from lotr, then world of warcraft copied dungeons and dragons. I dont see why its impressive that 9.3 million people play wow. There are billions of sane, normal people out there living thier lives, big deal if around 9 million losers play wow. You seriously need to grow up and get a life if you just play wow 24/7 365. Are all wow fans mentally subnormal?. I have NEVER met a completely normal person who plays wow. NEVER EVER, mostly there are adult virgins playing wow who desperately seek a lover, or sad 13 year old wow obsessed retards who indulge in vulga wow activities such as sad attempts to have sex. And nearly 99.9 percent of wow players suffer from disorders and depression or relationship and self esteem problems. In conlusion wow shouldnt be number one it sucks donkey balls 0.000000000000001/10 for me

There's nothing wrong with a casual gaming site.

If you don't like it, then go elsewhere. I'm sure there are plenty of other 'Hardcore' gaming sites out there that would better suit your tastes.

I think I know what you're driving at, but it's not like you can just change the forum because you think it should be different. If you don't like it, they talk about GAMES on neoGAF.

This site seems so... (forgive me for using the word) casual...

I hate sites where everyone is like 'lol FF7 and Ocarina of Time are teh best game evar!' etc, but I also hate sites where everyone is like 'lol, my first console the xbox hueg. The first game i ever played was halo'
