App lets users access Steam community and browse the store.

steam update -

Valve has announced and launched a closed beta of Steam for iOS and Android.

The application, imaginatively titled Steam Mobile, lets users access the features of the Steam community - such as screenshots, chat and groups - and buy games from the comfortably stocked Steam store. That'll be handy when there's only a couple of hours left on one of their ridiculous sales and you're stuck outdoors for the rest of the day.

Potential users can express interest by downloading the application (from their respective mobile marketplace) and attempting to log in; you'll only be able to catch tantalising glimpses of the login screen until the Valve gods offer you access or the application comes out of closed beta.

"Mobile is changing the way people interact, play games and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone," said Valve president Gabe Newell.
