The launch of PlayStation 4 has helped boost PlayStation Vita sales significantly, MCV reports.

According to the magazine, Vita sales rose by 68 per cent in the week of PS4's launch, and by 65 per cent the week after. It isn't known how many units that translates to, however.

Sony attributes the hardware's success to the launch of the new console, which can use the Vita as a second screen device or as a replacement for a TV, and to a new marketing campaign.

"PS Vita sales wise we are continuing to see strong week-on-week growth since our latest campaign kicked in," said senior product manager Ben Law. "The new TV advert went live this week and we've already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what [a] great proposition PS Vita is, either as a standalone device or as the perfect companion to PS4."

The PS4 launch could be the breakthrough the handheld has been waiting for: the device has struggled to make too much of a dent in the market in its eighteen months prior.

I bought a Vita in November, wanted to get one before they replaced the OLED model with the LCD model. Great little system, and I had a decent library of games ready to go due to PS+

However, the proprietary memory cards are overpriced (paid £40 for 32GB) and there's something that I didn't find out until I had the Vita.
Unless you have an active PS+ account you can't just backup the save files, ie only KB or a couple of MB. Without PS+, to backup the saves you have to backup the entire game...
Run out of space on the memory card (even with 32GB its likely), you have to backup up the game before deleting it. If you delete the game bubble you delete the game saves along with it!

Its seems that Sony have lumped together the game & saves to stop the game save exploits that happened with PSP. But in doing so they've screwed over everyone else.
And has it stopped custom firmware, of course not.

Had one for about 4 months now (Just before the price drop!). It's well worth buying, even if you do have a 3DS (or bought one for your kids as a "christmas present", whilst buying yourself Zelda...)! People who think playing games on their phone is better than a Vita or DS.... Have issues!

Peace

I've got the killzone bundle coming for Christmas from the wife. I'll then get the PS4 in the new year and with PS+ I'm looking forward to lots of free games to play and being able to sit in bed and play streamed BF4, bliss.
