Before Midway shuttered in 2009 it was working on a sequel to John Woo’s Stranglehold, footage released by a former developer has revealed.

The game was to be rebranded Gun Runner, but for all intents and purposes was a sequel to Stranglehold. Chow Yun Fat’s Inspector Tequila was returning, only this time alongside a rather familiar face – that of Vin Diesel.

The appearance of Vin Diesel would make sense, given Midway’s relationship with the action movie star when working on the pretty good vehicle action game Wheelman.

“I was fortunate enough to work at Midway Games for year prior to its financial demise in 2009,” wrote visual effects lead Sean Lantis on his Vimeo page.

“This project was basically the sequel to Strangle Hold and was getting fully rebranded to appeal to a wider audience. I was the VFX lead on this project and was in charge of all visual effects as well as a good portion of the destruction work. This game never made it to production and all footage is from the preproduction stage so it’s pretty rough looking to say the least.”

You can see that footage below.

Lantis now works at NetherRealm.
