Samsung and LG, the two largest producers of LCD displays, are reportedly tussling over who will produce the screen for the third iteration of Apple’s iPad.

According to sources of the Korea Times, Apple has already started quality testing Samsung and LG’s LCDs at one of its laboratories in China.

“Apple’s upcoming iPad 3 will feature an improved display to support quad extended graphics (QXGA), a display resolution of 2048×1536 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio to provide full high definition (HD) viewing experience,” said the source.

Analysts believe the next iPad will be branded the iPad 2 Plus, and expect the device to launch before the end of the year.

Yesterday, Apple reported that it had sold 9 million iPads in the last 3 months, giving the technology giant its most successful quarter on record.
