Burnout developer Criterion was approached by Nintendo and asked to make an F-Zero launch title for the Wii U, it’s been confirmed.

After being tipped off by a source, Criterion founder Alex Wards confirmed to Nintendo Life that the studio was asked by Nintendo of Europe to create a playable vertical slice to show off at E3 in 2011, but due to prior commitments, were unable to fulfil the request.

Nintendo had a disappointing E3 showing this year, of which Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime both responded.

Legendary developer Shigeru Miyamoto also shared his thoughts on the Wii U’s failings, while also discussing the potential for Nintendo’s next console, codenamed NX, which is due to be unveiled next year.
