Crystal Dynamics says that it “didn’t intend to cause any confusion” with the announcement surrounding Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Xbox exclusivity, although confusion still remains as to whether the game will or will not come to PlayStation and PC at a later date.

‘Answering’ questions in a new FAQ, Crystal claimed that it “certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement. The Microsoft Gamescom stage was a great place to make the initial announcement, but not necessarily to go into details.”

The developer added that it “did not make this decision lightly. Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us realize our vision for the game.”

Microsoft, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics faced scrutiny from fans and press over the way it handled the messaging surrounding the Tomb Raider deal, which seemed to bounce between being a permanent and timed exclusive.

But while the developer stopped short of confirming that a PS4, PS3 and PC would occur at a later date in the new FAQ, Crystal reiterated Xbox head Phil Spencer’s words that the deal “has a duration”.

“We aren’t discussing details of the deal, and are focused on delivering a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360,” it said.

PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said last week that he hopes “the game will come out eventually on PS4“.
