Square Enix has confirmed that it is developing a “next-generation Tomb Raider sequel”.

The news follows reports last week revealing that an upcoming comic book series would continue the tale of Lara Croft and “lead directly” into a sequel.

Introducing himself on the publisher’s blog, Square Enix America & Europe CEO Phil Rogers said that he is “excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!”

The PS4 & Xbox One title is expected to be in development at Crystal Dynamics alongside a new IP.

The developer teased that its next gen title would be revealed “soon” back in May.

Tomb Raider released in March, selling 3.4m copies within its first four weeks.
