Saints Row 4 has claimed the UK Video Game Chart No.1 in one of the most competitive weeks for new releases this year, Chart Track has announced.

The fourth game in the series – and the first under new publisher Deep Silver – becomes the fourth biggest launch of the year so far, behind Tomb Raider, BioShock Infinite and The Last of Us.

69 per cent of Saints Row 4 sales came on Xbox 360.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist takes second place, followed in third by Disney Infinity. Chart Track reports that Disney Infinity sales were 3.6 times the figure achieved at the launch of the original Skylanders game.

Interestingly, the kid-focussed game performed best on Xbox 360 with 43 per cent of total sales – 22 per cent on PS3, 21 per cent on Wii and 10 per cent on Wii U.

Payday 2 dropped from No.1 to No.18, though there have been reports of stock shortages in stores.

Elsewhere, 2K’s The Bureau is a new entry at No.10, with Wii U exclusive The Wonderful 101 performing miserably at No.22.

The new releases don’t slow down, with Rayman Legends, Lost Planet 3, Killer is Dead and Madden NFL 25 all coming to stores on Friday. We’re not confident any of the new releases will be able to topple Saints Row 4, but Rayman has the best chance.

Lost Planet 3 is launching to zero hype and could therefore struggle to make the Top 10, whilst Killer is Dead is sure to be pretty front-loaded and could sneak into a Top 10 place for one week only.
