PES 2013 has what it takes to compete with FIFA 13, Konami PR and marketing boss Brian Ayers has told MCV.

“This is the year where press is openly talking about PES being back to its best,” said Ayers.

The game launches on September 21, but Ayers believes its success shouldn’t be judged on week one sales.

“We think PES 2013 is going to be in it for the long-haul, especially in terms of the total lifetime sales as recommendations are passed on as people play the game”

He added: “There’s a very strong buzz out there, and press reaction has been both widespread and positive. This is feeding through to retail that PES is a true title contender, so we are confident this is a new beginning for the series.”

The problem PES 2013 faces is an ultra competitive launch window. September 21 also sees F1 2012 and Borderlands 2 arriving in stores, as is the iPhone 5, whilst its arch rival FIFA 13 hits stores one week later on September 28.
