News Corp: Games Corp?

The parent company of the Fox network and Sky television, News Corporation, may well be investing in any number of games companies in the near future, according to Chief Operating Officer Peter Chernin.

Even gaming giant Electronic Arts could be a target for the media conglomerate, which Chernin stated is “kicking the tires of pretty much all video games companies.” He went on at the US investment conference to say: “We see games as a big business and would like to get into it.”

Activision was singled out as a possible investment or purchase – though no solid details were given in any way about News Corp’s intentions or what they could offer the gaming world.

The sheer size of News Corp means they have almost unlimited options as to what they could do – the reported value of around $19 billion for EA would be mere pocket change to such a gigantic company. And what Rupert Murdoch wants, Rupert Murdoch gets…
