Criterion is gearing up to reveal “something amazing”, according to comments made by veteran producer Pete Lake.

Lake teased the announcement in an interview published on the studio’s website late last month, revealing that he had been “working on a couple of super-secret things that I can’t talk about yet. But we’ll have something amazing to reveal soon…!”

Criterion announced that it was working on a new first-person extreme sports racer at last year’s E3, but hasn’t released an update on the project since. It isn’t clear from Lake’s comments whether he’s referring to that game or an all-new project.

Many fans, of course, will be hoping to see the return of Burnout, the car-crashing racing series that Criterion became famous for in the noughties. The most recent Burnout title was downloadable spin-off Burnout Crash, which arrived on PSN and XBLA four years ago.

Could it have plans to reveal something at next month’s Gamescom…?
