In Starfield, Decontamination is a skill in the Physical category. By levelling up this skill, players will have a chance of recovering automatically from infections without needing to use medical items or seek out a doctor. As an Expert-tier skill, players will need to invest 8 skill points in Physical skills before it can be unlocked. Later ranks are locked behind challenges.
Decontamination skill ranks

| Rank 2 | Players have a moderately increased chance of automatically recovering from infections. | Recover from 15 infections. |
| Rank 3 | Players have a noticeably increased chance of automatically recovering from infections. | Recover from 30 infections. |
| Rank 4 | Players will have a 20% of avoiding an infection altogether when they otherwise would get one. | N/A |
