Background
A pre-med student turned revolutionary, Yara was a student at Universidad de Yara before she was invited via a note from Lorenzo Canseco, a member of the famous guerilla group. The note did not inform Iselda much except that Lorenzo was her father and her medical expertise and knowledge were required for the revolution. It never occurred to Iselda that she would one day become a revolutionary. However, things happened and she joined Libertad after going AWOL. After her graduation, she joined Antón Castillo's Fuerzas Nacionales Defensa (FND). One day the FND soldiers opened fire on a protesting group of students and one of them happened to be Iselda’s bride or ‘Novia’. This incident pushed her to the edge and eventually became a revolutionary.
