A version of Super Mario running on Unreal Engine 4 has been created by 3D artist Aryok Pinera which, whilst technically impressive, is all the proof you need that every advanced graphics feature in the world is no replacement for a winning art style.
To be fair to Pinera, “all the environment assets were taken from the Unreal marketplace” which explains why Mario may look so out of place. The animations, which are the best part of the demo, were actually all recreated from scratch.
