Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 remakes were planned before Vicarious Visions merger, claims Tony Hawk

It’s come to light that Activision Blizzard did indeed scrap plans for remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.

The claim came from none other than the birdman, Tony Hawk himself. (Spotted by Okami Games on Twitter) The megastar skater was speaking as a guest on the Twitch stream of andyTHPS last night. Andy was playing the excellent THPS 1+2 remakes during the interview, and naturally the question came up about a follow up. Alas, Hawk’s response wasn’t great news for those that might have been holding their breath for one.

“I wish I could say that we had something in the works, but Vicarious Visions kind of got disbanded…” he said. Mr Hawk then revealed that indeed, 3+4 remakes were supposed to be next on the table. “That was the plan. Even up until the release date of this (1+2), we were going 3+4. And then Vicarious got absorbed and they were looking for other developers and then… it was over.”

Another person on the call brought up the possibility of another developer being brought on, which Hawk addressed. “The truth of it is, they were trying to find someone to do 3+4, but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious. So they took pitches from other studios, like ‘What would you do with a THPS title?’ And they didn’t like anything they heard, and then that was it.”

Activision Blizzard announced in January of last year that it would be merging Vicarious Visions into Blizzard, despite a strong critical and commercial reception for the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remakes. The process was completed in April of last year, with the studio dropping its former name and becoming Blizzard Albany.
