How does PSVR 2’s eye motion tracking work?

The PSVR 2’s eye motion tracking works fairly simply. There are camera inside the headset that map out your eye’s movement fairly closely.

It can then use this data for other processes. Perhaps the most notable of which is foveated rendering, which uses your eyes movement to generate an optimised image to render out onto the display. Effectively, it increases the detail on areas of focus, and reduces details of areas out of focus. This gives you a good simulation of how peripheral vision works in real life.

The headset uses camera technology from Tobii, who are allegedly one of the biggest names in the eye tracking industry. Their technology can be found in the HTC Vive Pro and HP Reverb G2.
