We’re here to break down the key difference between RTX 4070 Ti vs 4080 & clear up any confusion.

The question on everybody’s lips is how big is the difference between the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080? We all know the RTX 4070 Ti has good specs – we can confirm that it is in fact Nvidia’s “unlaunched” GeForce RTX 4080 12GB which is anticipated to be amongst one of the best graphics cards you can buy in 2023.

This versus guide is going to be tougher than when we put the RTX 4070 Ti vs 3080 since the differences are less severe, namely because both GPUs use Nvidia’s new Ada Lovelace architecture.

We also might be leaning toward the RTX 4080 since we know more about it. We’ve helped our readers choose the best PC case for their RTX 4080 and PSU to cope with the 4080’s power requirements.

That said, we’re definitely excited about the RTX 4070 Ti, so keep reading to find a full breakdown of the spec differences between RTX 4070 Ti vs 4080.

RTX 4070 Ti vs RTX 4080 – specs

Below you’ll find a table of the spec differences between Nvidia’s two graphics cards.

The main similarities between the 4070 Ti & 4080 other than the same architecture include their shared Ray tracing ability and generation of tensor cores.

One notable difference is VRAM. The 4080 boasts an extra 4GB of VRAM, which means it will process high resolutions at higher speeds than the RTX 4070 Ti. For gaming performance, this translates to a better performance for taxing games which are played in 4K and 8K. In fact, we can say that the 4080 has roughly 30% better performance than the RTX 4070 Ti.

In terms of base and boost clock, the 4080 comes out with a marginally lower rating than the 4070 Ti. This translates to a technically higher FPS, though this is so minute that you’re unlikely to notice the difference.

If you’re confused about why the 4070 Ti has a higher boost clock, it’s because its generally lower specs mean it has more of a temperature and power margin to clock higher. This can be seen as an advantage or disadvantage since the 4070 Ti’s lower specs will translate to overall lower running costs because its power supply is less taxing than the 4080.

In terms of running games at 4K, our friends over at WePC have tested how well the 4080 can run 4K. Once they’ve got their hands on the 4070 Ti, expect them to run the same tests. Ultimately though, both graphics cards should be able to cope with gaming at 4K.

To put the 4080’s performance into perspective with Nvidia’s released cards, the 4080 16GB is up to 60% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti at 4K resolution.

RTX 4070 Ti vs RTX 4080 – price

The prices for the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 have, perhaps surprisingly, stuck fairly closely to their respective MRSPs, making for a better deal for consumers. So what are the differences between the two?

Put simply the RTX 4080 is more expensive, though this should come as no surprise. Not only is it a more powerful card, but the RTX 4070 Ti is essentially just a less powerful version of it. This means you’ll be paying around $1400 depending on which AIB you opt for. We’ve seen prices as low as $1259, and as high as $1659.

The RTX 4070Ti meanwhile rarely goes over $1000, tending to be around $850. Though of course, you are getting less VRAM, fewer CUDA cores and a smaller memory interface for this price.

With all this in mind is hard to separate which card is actually better value. It all depends on how much power and energy efficiency you think you need from your build.
