If you’re wondering which Final Fantasy 16 graphics mode is better, graphics or performance, we’re going to compare the two here.
The graphics in Final Fantasy 16 do not leave much to be desired. Put simply, the game looks fantastic. However, with the few performance issues that the game has been experiencing, you’re definitely going to want to pick between the two options. So, which is better?
Final Fantasy 16 graphics vs performance options
You’re going to want to make a decision between graphics and performance after you’ve followed our instructions on the best settings for Final Fantasy 16. Your options are between graphics and frame-rate:
- Performance Mode – 1440p or 1080p resolution running at 60FPS
- Quality Mode – 4K at 30FPS
Deciding between the two can be hard, especially as the game looks so good to begin with. How do you weigh up the difference between the two?
We gave the game a go with both options and, while the images might not do the differences any justice, we’re going to report back the differences we found.
On the left, we have images grabbed from gameplay with the Graphics / Quality mode enabled. On the right, we have images grabbed with the Performance / Frame-rate mode enabled.
The difference in 4K resolution and 1440p is definitely noticeable, and while it made the experience much more engaging at times, it didn’t compare much to the difference that a higher frame-rate enabled.
We found that running the game at 4K resulted in pretty severe performance issues. While the frame-rate cap of 30FPS was slightly irking at first, the game dipped below 30FPS at times. Final Fantasy 16’s graphics are stupendously immersive, and perhaps some of the best we’ve seen on the PS5 yet, but they almost seem slightly too ambitious for the console.
Likewise, the performance mode actually suffered rather annoying frame-rate drops below the 60FPS marker. This mainly happened in boss-fights and areas of dense population, however, it was not constant.
The performance mode was a much more enjoyable gaming experience, and the forsaken resolution was not missed all that much.
In light of that, we’d highly recommend picking the performance mode, though at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter too much as you can always switch between the two when needed.
